Stuff Going On

Teen Stories

l0rna, 14

I have been emotionally abused by dad since I can remember, and I've always wished that he would hurt me physically. I know that it’s because I wanted attention but I don't know why I wanted attention. Also, I used to self harm a lot and I kind of liked the attention I got from that, but I knew it was a bad kind of attention. Recently I've become very worried about my weight so I cut down on my food intake, and when I found out that I lost a pound, I was really happy and now I keep thinking about anorexia and bulimia. I don't want to become either of those because I have a dream to perform on London's West End in musicals and shows, and I know that if I become ill again then I won't be able to have my dream.

Whats it Mean ?

  • l0rna being emotionally abused is very hard, but you should remember that it is not your fault, nothing you have done has made you deserve this treatment. Many times people do not know how to properly express themselves and their feeling, so they lash out at others, often hurting those they care about the most.
  • All children and teens want attention and will usually settle for whatever attention they get whether it is good or bad. The trouble is that when seeking the wrong kind of attention it often becomes a cycle of continually making bad choices to get that attention. These bad choices may seem harmless at first but they often become
  • increasingly worse and can eventually threaten your future or even your life. You need to learn how to make good choices and to strive for positive attention.
  • To get help learning how to conduct yourself in a more positive way you may want to consider speaking with a counselor or therapist.
  • You could also choose to talk to someone else that you trust such as a teacher or religious leader.
  • Finding someone to talk and share your feeling with is a good way to help you work through your problems, make better choices, and plan for your future.
